Since December 15, 2018, the Institute for Forest Ecology and Environment hasconducted the Provincial science and technology project "Building software to detect deforestation and forest fires in Gia Lai province from real-time satellite images" under a contract with the Department of Science and Technology of Gia Lai Province.
The project has successfully built software combining GIS map data (namely forest inventory map and forest cover changes annually) with real-time remote sensing images to detect and announceplaces of deforestation and forest fires on forest land to each forest owner, forest plot and forest status to relevantunits and individuals.
The software automatically transfers information if it detects locations of deforestation and forest fires to relevant units and individuals in the province, who haveregistered in the system of the software based on information and communication technology. Messages can be transferred via SMS to mobile phones or via email of units and individuals registered in the software's information transmission system.
The results of the project contributeto reducing many costs in forest management and protection, creating a public information environment and ensuring revenue for subjects operating in the forestry sector such as services. forest environment, wildlife conservation, REDD + ...
The project contributesto improving the research capacity of the research team and participants. Sharing information of research results through articles published in provincial specialized journals and Agriculture and Rural Development journals contributes to improving professional qualifications for students, researchers, raise community awareness, encourage stakeholders to participate more actively in forest protection and development.
The results of the project have been evaluated as satisfactory by the provincial collecting council of the Department of Science and Technology of Gia Lai Province. Information about the acceptance meetingwas broadcast on Gia Lai television on 5/22/2020 (
